Awards & International Recognition
Due to the weight of work on the shoulders of a relatively small team, AEFF has not managed to enter its films into any film festivals recently. However this is something that is once again on their agenda.
In the past, the only film which was entered into any film festivals, won awards both times:
- THE GREAT RUAHA RIVER: Winner of the Jury Prize at the Spanish River Festival for environmental films.
- THE GREAT RUAHA RIVER (SWAHILI VERSION): Winner of the Golden Dhow Award for best of festival at the Zanzibar Film Festival in Tanzania.
AEFF films have also been screened at international conferences:
- THE GREAT RUAHA RIVER was screened on specially erected screens in the Water Dome throughout the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, August 2002 (through the Global Environment Facility of the World Bank.)
- RUNNING DRY was also screened throughout the World Summit on Sustainable Development, as above.
- WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE? was premiered at the Houses of Parliament in London in June 2002.
- WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE? was publicly screened in both French and English, and made available on DVD in 9 different languages, during the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, in Santiago, Chile, November 2002.
- WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE? was screened by the East African Wildlife Society on September 22nd 2002 and again in October 2002, as part of Kenya's awareness raising campaign on the ivory trade issue.
